Art, Myself and The Series: Arches of East Lansing
I thought I’d share this anyways. Just as a break from wedding photography and show people what my artistic passion is. Originally, I started shooting still life and landscapes. I chose those subjects because well they were ubiquitous and commonplace. I shot that frequently and then my best friend Ehren started to shoot night photography and I’d come along as well and the habit had just formed like that. A lot of that technique, utilized in my early stages of photographical development, has contributed toward my style and vision of wedding photography: compositional proclivities, likeness toward very carefully in camera cropped photographs, a Edward Hopper tinged lighting portrayal, and interest in surreal juxtapositions. But I’ll let you be the judge I may be wrong.
Now about this series; it was produced in Late April to May of 2007 for my color photography class. It had just stopped snowing in East Lansing and the nights were warm. They’re typically common landscapes of East Lansing, Michigan and they all feature one common element in the composition. If you can figure it out I’ll be impressed. The common element is a humorous allusion to the Arches of St. Louis which was contrived during my long pensive late nights of shooting.
